Doug Bailey

2010

Drawing on his extensive media and public relations background, Doug Bailey has played a key role in devising communications strategies that support organizations’ business initiatives, including professional sports team acquisitions, publication launches, branding efforts and business endeavors.

But his specialty is crisis and reputation management. Doug has worked with major corporations, organizations, coalitions and individuals on issues involving litigation, employee disputes, industrial accidents, product recalls, government prosecution, and medical malpractice. He is a fierce battler, unafraid of challenging media assumptions and playing to win on behalf of a client in which he believes. Doug knows how the media think and can anticipate angles, coverage, inquiries and tactics it will use when targeting a client. Perhaps more important, Doug brings a sense of calm to the most frenetic circumstances, exerting a steady hand and relaxed wisdom in pressure-cooker situations.

Before founding DBMediaStrategies Inc., Doug was a Senior Vice President of Rasky Baerlein Strategic Communications, one of the largest and best-known independent public relations companies in New England. There, he forged his reputation by working with such clients as The Boston Red Sox, Suez Energy, Eli Lily, Caritas Christi Hospitals, The Los Angeles Dodgers, ThinkFilm, Gannet Fleming Inc., UNICCO, and many others.

Before joining Rasky Baerlein, Doug spent 15 years as an award-winning journalist with the Boston Globe, where he held several positions, including business reporter, Deputy Business Editor, Political Editor and Senior Assistant Metro Editor for the Health and Science section, overseeing the paper’s coverage of medical, science, environmental, census, biotechnology, and higher education issues. Before joining the Globe, Doug spent five years as Senior Editor of New England Business Magazine, a Yankee Inc. publication. A journalism major at the University of Maine, Doug currently serves as an adjunct professor at Boston University in the Communications Department. He is also a member of the board of directors of the International Institute of Boston.
